How to Keep Your Yard Looking Nice All Year Round

All four of our seasons provide a different landscape in our backyard. Some seasons are a bit easier to enjoy, but each one has its own benefits. Just because there is snow outside or the temperatures have dropped a bit, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be thinking about how you can keep your yard looking nice. Here are some maintenance tips that you can follow throughout all 12 months of the year.

Lawn

In the summer months, there are some ways that you can protect your lawn throughout the whole year. You can use products all year long to improve growth, prevent weed growth and get rid of bugs and pests. In the fall, you’ll want to remove leaves from the ground before the snow flies. Otherwise, you’ll have a tougher time cleaning up in the spring. Come springtime, clean up any debris, weeds and twigs that you find laying around from the long winter. Investing in fake grass is always an option, however, there is a difference in cost between artificial turf and traditional sod, as well as different maintenance required.

Flowers and Shrubbery

There are some things you need to do to your flowers and shrubbery during different times of the year. When spring blooms, this is the time to prune some of your bushes. You want to cut away anything that has died during the winter. When winter is approaching, you can wrap some of your more delicate bushes in burlap to protect them from the harsh wind and ice that are coming your way shortly.

Fences, Sheds, and Structures

Aside from the plants and grass that you have in your yard, you probably have some structures that need some attention. Periodically, it’s a good idea to make sure your fence is intact. The tension wire should be performing its job properly. Make sure your shed doesn’t require any maintenance to keep the elements out. If you have play sets for the children, check the boards and hardware every few months to make sure everything is safe.

It doesn’t take a lot of time or money to keep your yard looking nice all year. Just a little bit of your time here and there is all you need. If you are outside doing yard work, you can take a few extra minutes to address some of the areas of your yard that could use some additional attention.
